Welcome back to the AI For Humans Newsletter!

Big week in AI — GPT 4.5 has been released! We’ll get into thoughts and reactions below but make sure you scroll down to read about Sesame’s new voice AI - this feels like a next-gen leap audio and you can try it right now. AND don’t miss the show this week because Kevin had one of the all-time strangest AI experiences with it.

GPT 4.5 is here… with caveats

So GPT 4.5 released their latest model to $200/mo Pro users and the buzz on it has been… weird? Initial takes were disappointing, it doesn’t do that well on current benchmark tests vs other recent AI models (it’s not a reasoning model like the o3 series so this makes sense). The limited rollout was a blow to many paid Plus users. However, the sentiment seems to have turned slightly around the creative abilities and, yes, the vibes again.

This new model feels more personal. Lots of people have been commenting that there’s something slightly better about how it’s communicating back to them and that creatively it’s making much more interesting choices.

It’s very difficult to know if a model has become more creative. How do you determine this? Each person has their own specific definition of what being creative means. What seems like great writing to me might be overwrought and trite to you. And this is where it will get more and more difficult to determine just how much impact these models will have on creative work.

OpenAI employees were fast to share the latests LMSYS leaderboard standings (a real world sense of how the model is viewed performance wise in anonymous testing) where GPT 4.5 came out on top… for one day. A new model of Grok3 now sits atop it by a single ELO point (the LMSYS score system).

All eyes are now turned towards GPT 5, OpenAI’s upcoming model that will have the o3+ reasoning system built into it. Sam himself said this is not that far away (‘months’) and that model will prob give us a direct look at the future of this entire space. Will it be a large leap from 4.5 or just a small step change in abilities?

More on Thursday!

3 Things To Know

Sesame’s Voice AI Must Be Heard to be Believed
The internet is floored at how good Sesame is. The most realistic talk-with-an-AI we’ve seen yet. We took it for a spin, and frankly can’t wait for voice AI this good to be built into everything.

Apple’s Upgraded Siri May Be Years Away
Meanwhile in Cupertino: Rumors are a gen-AI-laced Siri may not arrive until 2027, which, if true, kind of boggles the mind! Similar to Google, Apple has a lot to lose by moving too early on AI. But when Siri’s best feature is to simply hand off to ChatGPT, at a certain point you have to buckle down that turtleneck and start shipping.

Opera Announces A Browser Agent
The race to build the browser of the future has kicked off the past couple weeks with Perplexity’s announcement of their new browser, followed by today’s announcement from Opera’s. The team behind the Arc browser are said to be working on something similar. In short, if AI agents can do our bidding across the web, it likely fundamentally changes how we use the browser.

We 💛 This - Pikaframes

Another week, another cool new launch from Pika Labs. This one takes a start and end frame, lets you provide a text prompt, and generates a video to get from A to B.

It’s a feature Runway has had for a while, but in our testing Pika’s outperforming Runway with their new Pika 2.2 model.

We had it animate the most recent YouTube thumbnail, and while it isn’t perfect, it didn’t go too far off the rails.
