Breaking news this morning in the AI vs Hollywood wars (is it a war? or maybe more of a brewing revolution?)…
Promise Studios announced its launch this morning on LinkedIn and promises (we are so sorry) to be a whole new way of looking at top-level content creation.
Founded by George Stompolos (former founder of FullScreen), Jamie Byrne (YouTube) and AI filmmaker Dave Clark (who we’ve mentioned many times on the podcast), Promise looks to re-start the entire idea of how professional content is created with AI.
Promise will produce original films, series, and new formats in collaboration with the world's best Gen AI artists and storytellers. Our goal is to foster an environment where creativity and innovation can thrive, bringing bold ideas to life and captivating audiences around the world.
In general, we’re always semi-skeptical of companies that say they’re going to change the world but in this instance it’s something we’ve believed has been coming for some time.
The thing we’re not so sure about is how MUSE, their “production workflow software” will be all that different from something Runway (particularly if they don’t have a generative video model of their own) but we are here for companies that understand the power of Generative AI and how hugely disruptive it can be to Hollywood’s current status quo, at least in terms of tooling & workflows.
Heck, don’t take our word for it…. check out famous actor human Ben Affleck’s take on GenAI below.
More on the pod this week and, as always, thanks for reading!

3 Things To Know
It’s Time To Go Shopping
File this under why has nobody done this yet: Perplexity just shipped a shopping AI to help you find the best product for you needs. We’re eager to see how good it is, but “best [product] 2024” Google searches are plummeting as we speak.
Ben Affleck on Generative AI’s Impact on Hollywood
Colored us dazzled by Affleck’s spot-on take on generative AI, and it’s near-term applications in Hollywood. This clip goes to show (1) how central taste is to what we love, and (2) how much better he is putting this into words than we are.
Write Better Prompts with Prompt Improver
An update from the team at Anthropic: A new tool to juice up that prompt you were too lazy to optimize. It’s something a few image generators like Ideogram do behind the scenes, re-writing your prompt to be less bad, and we’re interested to see if this becomes commonplace to simplify prompt-writing.
We đź’› This - Spotify Text-To-Playlist
This release went under the radar, but it’s an easy way to set the vibes when your library isn’t getting the job done. From your Spotify Library screen simply hit the Plus button, and type a prompt for the vibes the moment demands. You can even have a back-and-forth to renegotiate the tracks worthy of consideration. Now… how long until they slip a few AI generated track into the list? 👀 |
