Your Weekly Dose Of Fun AI
Welcome to this week’s AI For Humans newsletter!
Another Saturday, another chance to catch up on the stuff you might’ve missed this week that isn’t about how to move your boss up the corporate ladder or how to grind out those next ten followers.
THIS IS THE FUN STUFF.
🌭 HOT LINKS 🌭
ChatGPT: Custom Instructions
Big ChatGPT news this week… most likely in response to the earlier big news from Meta / LLAMA 2 & Microsoft Insight 2023.
You can now give custom instructions to ChatGPT!
So…what does this mean exactly?
Basically, you now can tell ChatGPT to remember a set of instructions so that you don’t have to re-prompt it when you’d like it stay on a certain task or keep in character for role play. It’s super useful for lots of cool things but, for now at least, only paid ChatGPT Plus users get to access it.
But honestly… this + Code Interpreter = very much worth the $20 bucks a month.
Of course, if you’re us, you can also name your new friend Fancy Umbrella, have it call you ‘bro’ & make it give you an obscure 1970s Brazilian Funk song every time you ask if for social networking help.
Click on the three dots to the right of your username in the bottom left corner of the home screen to turn it on.
Gen2: Image-to-Video
RunwayML quietly launched what we think is the MOST interesting thing they’ve done to date — Image-To-Video.
You can now go into the Gen2 section of their website and instead of writing in a text prompt, you can upload a still image, leave the generation box blank and roll the dice. AND BOY DO THOSE DICE ROLL.
We threw our thumbnail from this week’s Podcast into the Gen2 machine and came back with this beauty. Who are those handsome men?
Even better… we threw in a bunch of stills from famous movies and we’ll show some of remarkable results on the show coming up this week.
RunwayML.com is free to try but does get expensive so keep an eye on those credits. It’s also annoying that like 50% percent of the time you don’t get much movement but I guess that’s the AI dice roll.
Jailbreaking a Google News With Voice LLMs
Justin Alvey on Twitter showed off his very cool jailbreak of a Google Nest that allowed him to talk with it in a much more natural way and even have a conversation with the awesome-but-deceased Alan Watts. We certainly hope someone figures out this tech soon because we’re buying.
I “jailbroke” a Google Nest Mini so that you can run your own LLM’s, agents and voice models.
Here’s a demo using it to manage all my messages (with help from @onbeeper)
🔊 on, and wait for surprise guest!
I thought hard about how to best tackle this and why, see 🧵

🚨 PAY ATTN TO THIS 🚨
APPLE GPT
In one of the least surprising announcements around generative AI yet, Apple let slip that it’s working on an AI model of its own.
According to a Bloomberg report, they’ve been working on this for a bit but aren’t exactly sure how they’ll release it to consumers.
Obviously, this is important because Apple is quite literally the largest technology company in the world. And while they have lots of money to burn, they also clearly aren’t going to be left out of the next generation of the Internet.
Something to pay attention to…
Apple, unlike Google or Meta, has little to lose from the search business changing via chat bots and conceivably, as a computer hardware manufacturer, has a lot to gain if people need to buy more powerful Macbooks and iPhones to run next gen LLMs. They might go very hard at this.
Note to Apple: You find a way to get this to be part of Vision Pro and we’re not sure we’ll ever leave the couch. YOU HAVE TOO MUCH POWER.
🪤 DUMB THING TO DO WITH AI 🪤
Suno is a fun AI music app that can now generate singing using AI and you can try it for free in their Discord. It’s actually pretty shocking how well it partners the lyrics you drop in to the AI-generated music/vocals.
And, of course, it’s important to see if it can re-imagine the classics (the discord bot has a simple tweet out function which we also like a lot).

🤖 AI FOR HUMANS LINKS 🤖
The week, we did a LOT of Tiktok’n but since it’s Barbenheimer weekend, we decided to do a little AI version and combined the two using ChatGPT + Eleven Labs & MidJourney.
@aiforhumansshow We ran Barbie and Robert Oppenheimer through ChatGPT / GPT-4 and created the fabled Barbenheimer. A bunch of other tools were used as wel... See more
