Plus, our can’t-miss AI feature of the week!

Welcome back to the AI For Humans Newsletter!

We’d been wondering when Anthropic was going to drop their newest model and yesterday we got the answer. Claude Sonnet 3.7 might sound like a minor upgrade in name (even Apple’s National Parks OS updates are better) but this is a major step up.

It’s the first combined reasoning model on the market & our experience so far has been nothing sort of extraordinary. The overall benchmarks are high (although they did not seem to include o3) but the biggest thing is just that the coding vibes are very strong.

Claude has always been the coding model of choice both for programmers and those of us who might pretend to be programmers (ahem, it’s vibe coder ok?) but this particular model has brought out a TON of praise.

Even better, you can try it yourself for free right now — go to the Claude home page and just try something simple. Anthropic has a built-in compiler for simple requests and you can do stuff like make your own DigDig clone.

This actually worked!

As we’ve been saying on the show, THIS is the sort of thing that will make ‘programming’ an entirely different sort of idea — the masses of people whose eyes might gloss over at a terminal window full of symbols (Gavin: <raises hand>) you now can just ask the computer to make something for you and it works.

Much more on Thursday!

3 Things To Know

Pika Launches Another Sneaky Good AI Video Feature
Pikaswaps are here, letting you replace anything in your footage with an object from an image, or scene you describe. Props to Pika for continuing to ship unique features in an age where AI tools like to play follow-the-leader. Between this and their recent Pikadditions, they’re nibble at bigger-lift workflows enabled by tools like Wonder Studio. Also… here’s the intro of The Office with each person recast as a Star Wars character.

Grab the Slides From Gavin’s Talk at NATPE!
Gavin gave a talk this week about Speed-To-IP, and how the AI tools we discuss can aid creatives in getting to what’s worth making faster than ever before. Grab the slides here, and if you’re putting together an event consider booking Gavin & Kevin!

Google’s Veo 2 Video Model now available via Fal
Anyone can now use Google’s excellent Veo 2 AI video model via Fal, but it costs a whopping $2.50 per 5 second generation. That’s two and a half freedom bucks for a 5 second generation. We thought it odd you still can’t get Veo 2 direct from Google (besides via their troubled mobile app), but maybe they’re still working out the dollars and cents.

I paid $2.50 and all I got are these fat stacks clipping through each other

We 💛 This - Claude Artifacts

A sneaky good Claude feature not discussed enough is Artifacts. Basically the ability to have Claude write an app, then run the app from inside Claude, and even share it externally with non-paid users.

We put the new 3.7 Sonnet model to the test on the classic benchmark: Hot dog eating contest… game contest.

With a single three sentence prompt, Claude generated a whopping 354 lines of code, and a satisfying (if unbalanced) simulator complete with min-maxed hydration and condiment power ups.

Before you make fun of my APM let’s see if you got that dog in you.
