Today on AI For Humans:
Is Anthropic’s Mythos Truly Dangerous?
Sam Altman’s Home Attacked
Plus, Steven Soderberg Defends AI

Welcome to the AI For Humans newsletter!

By now, you know the basics: Claude Mythos Preview is the model that, according to Anthropic, is too ‘dangerous’ to release.

It’s SO dangerous that Anthropic has created Project Glasswing, a coalition of large tech corporations (and JP Morgan) with early access to Mythos, to try to help patch software vulnerabilities before it’s unleashed on the world.

But is it all just a marketing ploy?

Yes, even though AI companies have been warning us for years that these systems are going to become super intelligent, a lot of people out there feel this is all just the next ploy in the AI race…

The ones showing up in LLMs convert 3× better than Google

They optimized for LLMs, not just Google.

FAQs. Comparison pages. Transparent pricing. LinkedIn presence. These aren't vanity plays. They're what gets you cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude when your buyers are researching, your investors are looking, and your future hires are deciding where to work.

Reality Is What We Portray It As

While I happen to take Anthropic seriously about the dangers it sees coming from the technology it creates, there’s a much larger issue right now…

Many, many people in the world hate AI right now.

And that vitriol is bubbling up into the real world.

Over the last few days, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home was attacked twice.

And over the weekend, it was shot at.

It’s getting scary out here… and that’s before lifechanging AI models.

After the first attack, Sam wrote a piece on his blog about his feelings about this moment in AI (part of which was a response to the New Yorker profile that painted him in not the best light).

A while back, I called for more positive narratives in the AI world and it’s clear now we need them more than ever.

I appreciate Anthropic’s need to make it clear AI can be dangerous.

But seeing how the general public is responding to what’s been done already and the attacks on the most public CEO in the space, I’m worried that we’ve lost track of how to speak AI to normal people.

We Need Less Fear, More Empowerment… And Soon

Today’s AI tools are already remarkably powerful and can give any number of new people a leg up when it comes to doing stuff in their everyday lives.

But there’s a growing divide between those who understand how to use them and those who see them only as a sign that the world is changing for the worse.

It’s not AI’s fault that it’s come into maturity during what is likely one of the more chaotic eras in modern history…

But it is our fault that we’re not communicating it in ways that help people understand how it can help them and not hurt.

With every ‘this AI is so dangerous, you don’t get to have it’ narrative, I’d love to see AI companies counter with ‘but we’re also training you on how to get the most out of our products’.

If this doesn’t happen soon, I worry the potential of this humanity changing technology will be buried in our collective fears.

I understand reading this might feel like a bit of a downer, but we are at a major inflection point when it comes to AI technology.

I have hope though we’ll see our way through this and expect the major labs to make advancements soon that might help show humanity the upside.

3 Things To Know About AI Today

Steven Soderberg Defends AI Filmmaking

Steven Soderbergh just spent his entire press tour for The Christophers openly talking about using AI in his upcoming films.

He's got a John Lennon and Yoko Ono documentary where AI fills in for archival footage and he's planning to use "a lot of AI" for an upcoming Spanish-American War epic starring Wagner Moura.

Social media predictably lost its mind.

Soderbergh's response was refreshingly honest: "I'm just not threatened by it." He also acknowledged it might be a phase, saying "Five years from now, we all may be going, 'That was a fun phase.'"

I think this isn’t a phase and more likely a significant change to the way we approach making almost anything. But the world we live in right now, it’s awesome to see filmmakers I appreciate speaking out.

Mark Zuckerberg is AI Cloning Himself

File this under ‘potentially done for the headline alone’, the Financial Times is reporting that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is working on an AI clone of himself for internal use.

Will AI be better CEOs than CEOs? Maybe.

Supposedly, this is so Mark has more time to work on AI but I’m not entirely sure how I’d feel about having a meeting with AI Mark if I need a decision.

Marc Andreessen On Simplifying The Idea of AI Agents

People have thoughts and feelings about a16z co-founder Marc Andreessen but I’ve found interviews with him to be clarifying when it comes to complicated ideas.

This particular moment from his recent interview with the Latent Space podcast is worth watching when it comes to what’s actually important in AI agentic systems like OpenClaw.

We 💛 This: The Infinity Machine

AI is a hot topic for non-fiction books but when a truly great one comes out, it’s important to make sure we sound the alarm.

The Infinity Machine, the new book about Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, is one of those and I highly suggest you read and share it.

And… as a bonus, it might just make you more optimistic about AI at large.

I loved this book & it’s worth your time.

Not only is it a remarkably readable history of the current AI world, it highlights someone who is (mostly) driven by the science behind the current technology and give me hope in a world dominated by some of the narratives mentioned above.
