Today on AI For Humans:
Prepare yourself for Advanced AI
OpenAI’s rumored new model & rough seas
Plus, more Nano Banana Pro Prompts!
Welcome back to the AI For Humans newsletter!
There’s been a lot more talk about an AI bubble. This last week, we saw some serious rockiness in the financial world even after NVIDIA crushed its most recent earnings reports.
But, as we’ve mentioned before, it’s important to separate out the ‘AI is a financial bubble’ chatter from where the technology itself is.
As the recent releases of Google’s Gemini 3 Pro & OpenAI’s GPT-5.1 Pro prove, it’s clear to me that AI will continue to get better from here.
And it’s not just in the benchmarks.
If you haven’t tried Gemini 3 Pro, I suggest you give it a quick go and see what you think (make sure thinking is turned on).
My personal experience has been that this is a big leap when it comes to the capability of what modern AI systems can do.
On top of this, OpenAI released two new models this week (GPT-5.1 Pro & GPT-5.1 Codex Max) both of which keep pushing the frontiers forward and, excitingly, we might finally be getting to the ‘do new science’ stage.
So no matter what your informed friends might tell you, it just isn’t true that AI is slowing down.
And it’s prob time for us to think about what happens if there is no AI wall.
Advancing AI & You In A Changing World…
It’s nearly impossible to predict what will happen in the next five to fifteen years.
The iPhone was famously supposed to flop in 2007 only to radically change our lives over the next 15.
The paper AI 2027 tried to do some AI prognosticating earlier this year (mostly to warn people about what’s coming) but since publication the authors have shifted their opinions on how fast change is coming already. Spoiler: It might take longer.
Love this newsletter? Forward it to one curious friend. They can join in one click.
But it’s very clear that change is coming and you can do a few things to prepare.
Here’s a handful of helpful exercises you can do right now to think about what this future might look like for yourself and your loved ones:
List the tasks you do every week at home that could be AI-assisted: Which parts of your life feel you could see a smart AI helping with? I mentioned last week that I’ve been using ChatGPT to list items on Facebook Marketplace. Start simple and add a humanoid robot helper to the mix.
Learn about what AI is automating in your work life right now and how far it is from doing your job. Even if it’s a long ways away, see if you can work with one of the LLMs to understand how it could automate your work.
Run a skills audit on yourself with curiosity, not panic. Try seeing which parts of your work and home lives you like to do and what you’re good at. Lean in further to those things and then research what AI is doing in those spaces.
If you have children, talk to them about the idea of advanced AI and what could be possible. Discuss the idea of ‘post-scarcity’ (whether or not it happens) and ask them what they’d want to do in a world like that.
Thinking Optimistically In Chaotic Times…
The easiest thing to do during tumult is to buckle down for a storm and prepare yourself for the worst. I have a tendency to assume things will not work out and, when they do, I’m kind of amazed at the positive turn of events.
I’m personally trying to flip that around on myself when it comes to AI. What it can do already is pretty remarkable and the upside is much greater than the general public has been told.
See you next week!

3 Things To Know About AI Today
OpenAI’s New Model & Temporary ‘Rough Vibes’
The Information this week (paywall) reported that Sam Altman sent a memo to the company foreshadowing the advances that Google made with Gemini 3 Pro and that specifically the company might temporarily fall behind in the race for the future of AI.

Second place is an unusual place for OpenAI to be but they’ve still got a massive footprint in regards to how many people use ChatGPT on a weekly basis.
“ChatGPT is AI to most people, and I expect that to continue,” Altman said in the memo.
Additionally, the memo teased a new ‘Shallotpeat’ model which will aim to fix issues with the pre-training process. Google’s new Gemini 3 Pro model was able to see significant advances in pre-training which, from the outside, felt like an area of AI that might’ve been saturated.
You might remember that GPT-4.5, OpenAI’s last massive pre-training model prior to GPT-5, was a bit of a disappointment back in February of this year.
Hollywood Vs AI Continued: Rian Johnson Says ‘F*** AI’
Director Rian Johnson was interviewed in the Hollywood Reporter to chat about his new Knives Out movie but towards the end of the article the talk drifted to AI and he had some choice words to say about it:

Some choice words on AI…
If you’re reading this, you likely know my thoughts about how AI could be used as a signifcant lift for creators across many different entertainment ecosystems.
I’m a huge fan of Rian’s work but, to me, this kind of shows as a generalization of the discussion around AI rather than a detailed take.
Maybe worse: the Hollywood media establishment (small but intensely influential) has learned that AI hate = clicks and we’re likely to see a lot more of these sorts of articles.
ChatGPT Group Chats Rolling Out To All Users
ChatGPT isn’t just a solo exercise any more. Welcome to Group Chat mode:
You might think this is a small little invention but I personally will use this all the time, mostly when dealing with family conversations around planning.
As OpenAI moves from just cutting edge AI lab towards a more fully fleshed out product suite, I think this is a super smart move to make AI convos more collaborative.
We 💛 This: Nano Banana Pro Novel Prompts
Good lord, Nano Banana Pro is just insanely fun to play with.
Any new image model release goes through that specific time period where you see novel use cases but because NBP is powered by Gemini 3 Pro, you can do a LOT more.
Last week, I came up with a random idea to try to get Nano Banana Pro to not only fill in the age gaps of me over the years but also then took a selfie with all versions of me. And it mostly worked. You can find my prompt for this on Reddit.

I’ve been pretty shocked at what’s possible…
There’s a bunch more fun things that I’ve seen and you can try below:
This recursive painting of man painting himself while looking at himself on TV shows off how crazy Gemini 3 Pro’s reasoning ability is.
Generating ads & potential product shots for companies. Also, weirdly good at coming up with potential AI For Humans swag.
Nano Banana Pro can create a ‘really annoying LinkedIn profile’. It has a remarkable understand of internet webpages at large.
I was super impressed by this post creating well designed charts from a table of data from Wikipedia.
